AIR 2.6: Welcome back iOS!

By Rich Tretola | March 22, 2011

AIR 2.6 has been released. Notable new features include iOS support for application development and compilation within ADT, Microphone support, Camera support for iOS, CameraRoll support for iOS, StageWebView for iOS, improved hardware acceleration for iOS applications, on device debugging for Android app development, and more.

As you can see most of the new functionality focuses on mobile development and the addition of iOS to the application development workflow. I have been testing this for a while now and am happy to say that it works as advertised. Write code once and deploy to many devices (Android, iOS, and BlackBerry Tablet).

To read more about the new features of AIR 2.6 check out Christian’s post here. To get the new runtime go here and to get the new SDK go here.

That’s so great to hear. About to wrap up a Phonegap project for iPhone/Andriod and would love to go back to Flex/AIR for the next project.

    Yeah – nice work, Adobe.
But unfortunately it’s impossible for me to find a tutorial on how to publish a flash app for iOS with AIR 2.6.

This is still under development. There will be many online resources for building iOS apps once the tooling is publicly available.
