Please RT: Apple iPad – No Flash Player? #FuckTheIpad

By Rich Tretola | January 27, 2010

Seriously Apple, how can you claim in your video (http://www.apple.com/ipad/) that the iPad delivers the best possible web browsing experience and not have support for the Flash Player? Hell even the image I link to below is arrogantly named “best_experience_20100127.png. It all goes back to the points I made in my post titled Apple’s greed to only help Adobe with Mobile Flash Player from back in October.

Google, bring on the Android gPad please!

The twitterverse is revolting! I have seen many tweets over the last few hours including the #FuckTheIpad hashtag

Too funny… I clicked on your link to watch the iPad video and was greeted with “Download QuickTime to view this video. QuickTime is free for Mac + PC.” Unfortunately, I’m running Linux! I have a lot of bones to pick with Adobe about supporting Linux users (especially 64-bit), but I have at least seen some progress and I do believe Adobe is trying. Apple is basically saying, flat-out: “if you like Flash or Linux, we’re not even going to attempt to show you our iPad video!” Fortunately, I have no reason to care about the iPad in any way, shape or form. I’m not going to spend another second looking for a video or article about the iPad. I just don’t care.

ha, they’ll sell a ton of these things and most of them won’t care that flash is not on there. I’m even a flash developer but apple doesn’t want it on there hardware so that’s that. Why is everyone so worked up? Every device that connects to the internet is not obligated to have flash. The market will decide and if enough people buy them as they did the iPhone then the market will be sying no flash is no biggie.

The only people who seem to care about flash on hand helds are flash developers. You need to get over the fact that the average purchaser doesn’t care. Even as a developer I barely care about flash anymore and other than video playback and uploading flash/js widgets I don’t even use flash anymore and for video I think qt in-browser has much better quality.

I hope android does gets it and you all can sit around bitching about how terrible, slow & useless it is.

You can bitch about how you all hate apple so much and how you hate what they are doing but when you pull your head out you will see whatever it is that apple is doing is surely working regardless of what you might think.

I got an iphone at launch at there has not been even 1 time where I wished I had flash on it. Everyone can have their opinions but jesus this is getting old. At least they are doing something to push our tech & products beyond what we have which is forcing everyone to make better products. I seem to recall m$ has had this chance for the last 20 years & what did they do with it? hint…. nothing

Adobe is turning into a m$ wanna-be and they are slipping so I for one am not putting my eggs in their basket again.

Yeah… That’s why there is companies trying to do the same as Adobe, like Microsoft spending tons of money on Silverlight… and guess what… for the web!! Most of the biggest web agencies on the world use flash in their sites and deliver an experience that you cannot (I dare to say never?) reproduce in any other web language (Red Interactive, 2Advanced, Fwa, and so so many others . Being installed in 95% of computers, how can’t Flash be a standard?? How can Apple claims they are giving you a “fully web experience” when you don’t support the biggest plug-in on the web? lol? So many designers can only express their creative ideas. Being Apple so close to designers and creatives, how come they don’t support the damn plug-in? Oh, I would like Adobe to not release their software to Macs (i have one and I’m a developer btw…). After all, each time Adobe launch their products, Apple some new Macs…

Like who? Do you have any that are sites that 99.9999999% of the consumers who actually will buy one will visit and not just some random developers sites?

Apple sold what.. 18-20 million ipods and iphones last quarter which is speaking volumes about how non-important flash really is to the mass consumer world.

The only selling point they need is to mention how many annoying flash ads you will avoid by using it and sit back and watch the stampede.

The fact is this, until adobe builds a decent mobile player they are going to be battered by apple and if you are a flash developer then you might wanna start to learn some js or cocoa because it’s hard to imagine the apple machine slowing down now.

dave: ” The only people who seem to care about flash on hand helds are flash developers. ”

    Spot on.

mauro: “Being installed in 95% of computers, how can’t Flash be a standard?? ”

Flash cant possibly be a “standard” when it has a closed player implementation. For anything to become a standard on the web, IMO has to be a fully open standard.
Adobe hoped releasing the swf spec’s more timely may help to this regard, and that of creating greater player coverage, but at the end of the day, its not enough.
The web and its standards cannot be in a stranglehold by a single commercial company.

Further, with the ever increasing HTML5 compliance (such as video tag support) and faster and faster javascript engines and improving css support, Flash will become more and more irrelevant over time and go back to being an animation package!

Why bother being mad at Apple? I never really liked what they did, and never will (I think). Fashion and computers don’t mix imo. Anyway, enough bashing the Apple.

What I wanted to comment is, If you don’t like what they do, just don’t buy it…but you shouldn’t be mad because it’s (/they are) just not worth it.

Android and all open sourced mindedness ftw! :) If Apple believes they don’t need Flash, let them starve in their stubbornness.
One positive thing I can say about Apple is that they seem to stick to their priciples…if they say no to Flash, they really seem to mean it…that is something I really admire in people/companies.

    Kind regards,

    Jochen
