By Rich Tretola | July 21, 2009

We will soon be looking to standardize on an AJAX library so I am wondering which library you use and why?

Dojo, JQuery, YUI, Prototype, Spry, other? Please let me know.

I think jQuery and Prototype is the big 2.
    I love jQuery more.

    Jquery! tried spry and prototype.

Jquery’s architecture is simple. especially creating plugins, custom animation. Its Jquery UI library is great as well. the core traversing and dom manipulation library is the most easiest and provides a lot of useful functions IMHO.

I’ve been using Jquery for quite a while, and it hasn’t let me down such that I have to look at other libraries.

    JQuery.

I’ve used Rico, prototype, scriptaculous, and dojo, but jquery is so much easier to use.

Also check out the new BBC Glow which has been influenced by jQuery. Will take some time to mature though. http://www.bbc.co.uk/glow

Personally I prefer the design of Prototype over the others, although some people think it’s evil because it apparently does naughty things to the built in JavaScript types.

jQuery. Just started learning it after a long period of testing a number of different libraries. Seems like it has the widest adoption of them all. Also, I like the fact that it’s available via Google CDN and has a large following. Finding solutions to problems is fast and easy. The jQuery UI library is relatively new but makes implementing and styling UI component incredibly simple.

I have used most of them excluding Spry, and JQuery seems to have become the standard, replacing Prototype in the process. If you google for benchmarks on the various libraries, for example http://is.gd/2lpKW , Prototype comes bottom performance wise – meaning it may not be the most future-proof choice.

Personally I quite like MooTools, but if you want to pick a popular, easy to learn, powerful, and efficient library JQuery is the way to go.

I’ve tried all the others and just find jQuery to be the best overall. I’ve made it the standard in my department.
