Google and Adobe have been working together for a while to get SWF content indexed and today, the announcement that this is finally occurring has come to fruition.

  • The good news: Embedded text and text deriving from external files are now being indexed and are searchable through Google.
  • The bad news: Any content loaded from a server (AMF, etc) is not included and still unable to be searched.
  • Although this isn’t the end goal, it is certainly a huge step in the right direction for RIA.

Updated: Thanks to Dave for pointing out my mistake in point 2. Dynamic content will be indexed! This is a great day for SWF.

Your second bullet point is incorrect according to the various articles I’ve read about this announcement. Server content will indeed be indexed because the engines will be simulating a user while crawling the SWF.
