Matt MacLean has released an alpha version of an ActionScript libraries to connect directly to a mySQL database. This is a free library and can be downloaded at http://maclema.com/assql/
This is something that the community has been asking for and Adobe has already stated that they would not have native support for external database connections. So, Matt has taken it upon himself to write the libraries.
One of the things I enjoy most about Flex/Apollo development is the outstanding community of developers. Please say thank you to Matt for this excellent contribution to the Apollo community.
